MegaBox myth busting: BOXING!

Boxing isn’t a full-body workout???

You may have heard or even thought yourself that boxing based training doesn't provide a good workout past the shoulders and arms. Well, on the surface boxing appears to focus solely on the upper body and this is often why some people may decide to choose a different form of exercise under the impression that it will only work certain areas of the body. However, when we delve into the mechanics and technical aspects of boxing it becomes very clear that it is in fact a very effective full body workout targeting most of the major muscle groups, whilst also being a great way to improve cardiovascular fitness!

As mentioned above, the shoulders and arm muscles certainly do a significant amount of work when performing a boxing based workout. What is not so obvious is that several other areas of the body need to work continuously while throwing punches with correct technique.

Everything starts from the legs, whether that is movement, balance, weight distribution or producing force to throw effective punches. These actions are then transferred through the trunk of the body, with the core muscles required to continually work hard to keep us stable and transfer force before each punch finds its target on the bag.

In addition to the more obvious areas of the shoulders and arms, the chest and back muscles are also very important in controlling arm movements and in turn work hard to not only produce force but also to control the amount of force when punches are thrown and retracted back to the body.

So, in order to move well, stay balanced, and produce both speed and power during a boxing workout the whole body will be working hard throughout! And ofcourse, when this is combined with the effectively programmed fitness elements of the MegaBox circuit, it provides an incredibly challenging and unique full body workout.
